The VRWB welcomes the important budgetary increase of 81 million EUR for the Science and Technology programme managed by minister Dirk Van Mechelen, despite the difficult budgetary context. A significant part of the additional resources however has a one-off character. This observation should not take anything away from the budgetary objective - defined in the Innovation Pact and adapted in the Enterprise Conference - to achieve the 3% standard for Research and Development in 2007. Therefore, it is necessary that the Flemish government reserves sufficient additional resources in the next legislature in order to be able to continue realising its commitment.
