On February 5, 2010 the Flemish Government organized a States-General of Industry. Brand new VRWI-president Dirk Boogmans addressed the meeting. Quote:
"The preservation and strengthening of industrial activity in Flanders depends largely on the success of the translation of knowledge into new products and services, in value added. The DNA of the Flemish economic tissue should be renewed by resolutely work on research and development, innovation and specialization. Now invest in research and development is investing in our future. It is from this perspective that the VRWI likes to take on the initiative of the Minister of Innovation for the creation and launch of Innovation Directed Groups. This direction has two basic groups, namely (at first) designing and advising on innovation-oriented strategies, and (secondly) to form a platform for cooperation and directing the implementation of these innovative strategies. This mission fits perfectly with the broader powers of VRWI. The Flemish government expects many of these groups direction. They have a crucial contribution to the States-General for Industry, which we launch here today. "
